About Us

columbia wholesale, c. p. moorer, reba smith moorer, clemson university, industrial, woodwork, rotc program, anderson boys high schoolColumbia Wholesale was founded in 1968 by the late C. P. Moorer and his late wife Reba Smith Moorer. Mr. Moorer’s vision for Columbia Wholesale actually began back during his days at Clemson A & M (now Clemson University) in the 1930s when he studied industrial woodwork. After graduating Clemson’s R.O.T.C. Program in 1938, he taught woodwork at Anderson Boys High School until the U.S. entered World War II. During the war he was stationed throughout the southeast United States building prisoner of war camps for Germans who were captured on the European front. After the war was over, he started to work as an outside salesman for a large hardware wholesaler known as Carolina Wholesale in Columbia, South Carolina.

After 18 years with Carolina Wholesale, with new owners taking over, Moorer decided it was time for a change and started Columbia Wholesale in an old railroad warehouse on Gervais Street, in what is now Columbia’s popular Vista area. The business operated there until 1982, when a new facility was purchased about two miles south of the old location. The business continued to prosper at the new Whaley Street location, which has been expanded several times over the past 20 years. Finally, when there was no more room to expand on Whaley Street, in 1999 we purchased 19 acres for a new facility that would be built at the edge of Columbia.

In November 2004 the new facility was completed and Columbia Wholesale moved to its present location at the intersection of I-26 and I-77.

Today the company is still as strong as ever under present owners Mr. C. Pinckney Moorer and Mrs. Nancy Moorer Rye, the son and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moorer.
