For the serious biker, performance is a must; in order to maintain performance, regular maintenance is necessary. Regular maintenance increases the performance and longevity of your bicycle and reduces the risk of breakdown. Like any other machine, bicycles parts wear down. Below is a list of some of the things you should be aware of when trying to maintain the performance of your ride. If your bike is in need of repairs or maintenance, you can always rely on our professional mechanics to provide you with the upkeep you require. Before every ride:

  • Check your tires; they should be hard when pinched.
  • Check both wheels to ensure that they rotating properly.
  • Squeeze your brakes to be certain that they are gripping and engaging properly
  • Review your bike for loose parts
  • After your ride, if your equipment has gotten muddy, give it a quick rinse.

At Least Once a Week

  • Lubricate the chain
  • Check tire pressure, re-inflate if necessary
  • Rotate the tire to ensure that they are not scrubbing against any part of the bike.

Every Few Months

  • Check your brakes to make sure that they are properly adjusted and that the pads are not worn
  • Check derailleur adjustments
  • Make sure that all the screws are tight
  • Check tires for signs of wearing or bulging
  • Check your handlebars to ensure that they are properly aligned with the front tire

Yearly

  • Check the chain; it may be time to have it replaced due to normal wear and tear
  • Disassemble moving parts, clean and lubricate them
  • Check bottom brackets
  • Check derailleur, replace if worn
