Policies and Procedures
The ELLES School believes all students can behave at school. Students have a responsibility to behave in a manner that allows teachers to teach and students to learn and does not violate the best interest of any individual in the school community.
We have a few rules that will outline acceptable school-wide behaviors. All students are expected to abide by the following school rules:
- Playground
- No standing or sitting on top of any equipment
- No throwing wood chips
- Enter and Exit through the Pedestrian Gate on Crestwood Blvd.
- Walk in halls and in the classrooms at all times
- Absolutely no defacing or damage to school property or that of others
- Only kind words are spoken here!
- Insults and/or profanity strictly prohibited
- Follow the bathroom schedule as established
If any student decides not to follow the rules, the following are the consequences the student will face:
- The student will receive a verbal warning
- The student’s name with a check next to it will be recorded
Consequences:
- First Offense: Silent Lunch
- Second Offense: Lose Recess
- Third Offense: Detention after school for 30 minutes
Attendance
School attendance is the direct responsibility of parents and students. All students are expected to attend school regularly and to be on time for classes in order to benefit from the instructional program and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline, and responsibility. When a student is absent, parents are to send a written explanation to the school with the student when he or she returns. The two categories of absences are excused and unexcused. An excused absence is given for student illness, illness, death in the family, and religious holiday. An unexcused absence is one that does not meet any conditions of an excused absence. If an ELLES School student exceeds ten absences, a conference will be held to discuss the situation. Students absent more than 36 days will not pass to the next grade. Tardy students must first report to the office to receive a tardy slip.
Promotion Requirement
Promotion is determined by the continuous progress a student has made in the academic areas of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies as well as physical, emotional, and social factors. Classroom performance in all academic areas, maturity, and attendance are considered in promotion decisions. ELLES School students may have a modified method of assessing continuous progress due to learning differences some students at the school may demonstrate.
Non-Discrimination Policy for Students
Discrimination on the basis of religion, race, national origin, color, sex, marital status, or parental status is prohibited in the admission, selection, scheduling or other treatment of any student at The
ELLES School.
