Scams To Avoid
Just because you don’t see your roof every day doesn’t mean you received the best materials and craftsmanship possible for your roof. Unfortunately there are several different roofing scams that can be found in communities throughout Florida. Especially during hurricane season and after a major storm hits, these con men can and do pop up, looking to take advantage of people.
These scams can include people offering “free inspections” that turn up problems that may not be there, as well as people offering to use “leftover materials from another job” to repair your roof at a low cost. Of course, this material they have may not even be proper roofing material, not to mention that it may not even get used on your roof!
It can be easy to avoid being a victim of a roofing scam if you seek reliable, licensed contractors to perform work, contractors who can provide evidence of their licensing and references from past projects. Licensed roofing contractors provide a written contract of the work to be performed and all costs associated with it, so you can know not only the work being done, but what it costs and why. Also, avoid contractors who go door to door, require a large initial down payment, or ask to only be paid in cash for work performed.
